Coaching is defined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking way and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential”.  

 (ICF (2021), the Gold Standard in Coaching).

John Whitmore described Coaching as, “unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them”.

(Whitmore 2009.  Coaching For Performance: The Principles and Practice of Coaching)

The relationship between a coach or facilitator can further be described based on trust, exploration of possibilities and confidentiality. 

(Kimsee-House et al. 2011. Co-active Coaching and Leadership).
